Truth. It used to be understood as something knowable and non-negotiable. It had definite edges and fixed parameters. But that is no longer in step with today’s increasingly post-modern culture. So, “truth” has been remade to be flexible, accommodating, and subjective, making personal desires and preferences ultimate authority.
Though man may try to redefine his own reality, there is still one, glorious, unshakeable Truth that is not determined by human minds or desires. In the midst of an eroding culture of relativity and arrogant rejection of God, the church must stand firm, boldly and joyfully proclaiming the absolute authority of the Truth found in the unchanging Word of God. Through the teaching of sound doctrine by the power of the Spirit, it is our privilege and our high calling to impress on the next generation an attitude of humble submission to the Word – submission flowing from a relationship of love and respect for the one true God, the eternal Author of Truth.
This great work belongs not just to the church. While parents are primarily responsible, this task is to be also shared by pastors, CE staff, teachers, volunteers, helpers – anyone who knows children and knows Christ as Savior. Therefore, Children Desiring God is eager to invite all those invested in this task to the 2011 Children Desiring God conference. Please join John Piper, Russell Moore, Kempton Turner, and myself along with many seminar leaders as we seek scriptural and practical delight, encouragement, and equipping in the Word for shepherding the hearts of the next generation to know and cherish Jesus Christ.
That the next generation might set their hope in God,
David Michael
